AMF Hosts Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon March 19

Entry deadline is March 11; Free trip offered to top fundraiser

Richmond, Va., March 3, 2005 - AMF Bowling Centers and Junior Achievement of Central Virginia are teaming up to host the 20th Annual Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon on Saturday, March 19 th .

The deadline to register is March 11.   New this year, AMF and JA are giving away a grand prize to the person who raises the most money - a "free game" of bowling for two people anywhere in the United States or Mexico where there is an AMF bowling center. The top prize also includes airfare for two, hotel accommodations and $1,000 in spending money.

"This team-oriented event is an ideal forum for the corporate community to encourage wellness and team building within the company, while supporting a great community cause," AMF President and CEO Fred Hipp said.   "Junior Achievement's educational programs for our young people benefit all of Richmond's businesses, and participating in a fundraising Bowl-A-Thon is a fun way to show support."

AMF Hanover Lanes, AMF Shrader Lanes and AMF Sunset Lanes will each host a Bowl-A-Thon.   The entry fee for a team of up to five members is $100 and includes three games, shoe rental and a t-shirt.

Teams can conveniently register online at www.jatoday.org/html/bowl.html or contact JA's Missy Macfarlane at (804) 217-8864.

The Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon is open to any company, group, individuals or families that would like to have lots of fun and raise funds for JA of Central Virginia. Last year, more than 200 teams bowled at the three Richmond-area AMF centers and raised just under $100,000. The 2005 event goal is to raise $150,000.

All proceeds from the event will go directly to Junior Achievement programs that benefit Richmond-area students.   Last year, JA surpassed its goal for the number of children served, reaching more than 19,000 children (a 67% increase in three years) throughout greater Richmond and over 2,000 in the Charlottesville region.

Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics and free enterprise.   Through a dedicated volunteer network, Junior Achievement offers in-school and after-school programs for students in grades K-12.   JA programs focus on seven key content areas; business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy and career development.   For more information, visit www.jatoday.org
