AMF to Host 12th Stars & Strikes Fundraiser in San Jose

Bowling event expects to raise $1 million to help families of injured troops

Richmond, Va., May 9, 2005 - AMF welcomes the 12th Stars & Strikes fundraising event to AMF Oakridge Lanes in San Jose, Calif. May 14. Since its inception, this unique community effort has been held exclusively at AMF Oakridge Lanes and underwritten by Cadence Design Systems, Inc., the world's largest electronic design automation technologies and engineering services company.

“Hosting Stars & Strikes for more than a decade, we have all seen the incredible things that Cadence has done by funding deserving causes in Silicon Valley,” said AMF president and CEO Fred Hipp. “Throughout our history, we have often worked with community groups in the markets we call home, with a commitment to providing the traditional bowling experience of fun, hospitality and camaraderie.”

Since 1990, Cadence has designated Silicon Valley organizations to receive funds raised through Stars & Strikes. Through the past 11 events, Stars & Strikes has brought together local companies and celebrities in a bowling competition, raising millions of dollars for projects and organizations that support the local community. Supported by a “who's who” of business leaders in Silicon Valley, local celebrities, and the San Francisco 49er Foundation, this year's event is on track to meet or exceed its $1 million fundraising goal.

Those in attendance at Stars & Strikes 2005 will team up with 49ers players as they compete for bowling tournament trophies, followed by live and silent auctions for sports memorabilia, computers, personal electronics, software, incredible weekend getaways, vacations, and more.

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit The Fisher Foundation, a non-profit organization that will build a Fisher House for families to stay in while their loved ones undergo serious medical procedures and rehabilitation at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif. Fisher House will provide a home away from home for many families that want to be near their loved ones in a time of need.

"Making the Fisher House in Palo Alto a reality is a wonderful example of what the corporate community can do when we work together," said Ray Bingham, executive chairman of Cadence. "This project will benefit many families of our servicemen and women for years to come."
